Dakota Communications Center

Facility

The Dakota Communications Center (DCC) facility was constructed by Dakota County for the DCC Members to house the combined countywide 911 and emergency dispatch services. Located in Empire Township, the DCC is centrally located to better serve Dakota County citizens.

The design of the building involved multiple stakeholders from all three DCC Committees with the Design Advisory Committee (DAC) serving as the lead committee. The DAC includes three Dakota County Commissioners, two representatives from the DCC Board of Directors, and one representative from Empire Township.

The DCC is approximately 25,000 square feet and equipped with state-of-the-art dispatch consoles. A new 800 megahertz digital radio communications system allows police, fire, EMS and sheriff’s personnel in multiple jurisdictions to communicate with each other and will also enhance the interoperability of radio systems among all first responders.

The facility construction and required technology costs to bring the DCC into service were $15 million, which will paid by the Members of the DCC through a cost-sharing formula. Construction for the DCC facility began June 2006 and was completed in Fall 2007.
